Asthma Drugs Impacted by Recall

Too often, patients who are impacted by faulty or contaminated drugs suffer the consequence long before manufacturers launch recalls. That’s part of the reasons why you should never ignore a drug recall that impacts a medication you rely on.

According to a series of news reports, a major Indian drug maker is recalling 1,400625 vials of Levalbuterol Inhalation solution. These drugs are used by patients who suffer from shortness of breath and who are experiencing too much coughing due to asthma or another type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reported that the company behind this recall has decided to launch the recall after it learned that the drug may not meet impurities and degradation specifications. The vials impacted by the recall were manufactured at the company’s Pithampur facility. While the recall was first launched in late April, many of the products are still being used.

The FDA decided to crack down on several Indian drugmakers last year after many reports concerning their facilities and their manufacturing standards concerned regulators. Too often, some of these drugmakers are uncapable of following certain procedures used by drug makers in the United States. To regulators, this presents an issue since several of these products may not meet important safety standards. Drug products sold in the U.S., federal regulators argue, must meet important standards so patients are not exposed to any health issue. To prevent incidents, patients who often rely on certain medications should never ignore drug recalls that impact them.

Ignoring Drug Recalls Puts Your Life In Danger

Recalls are often associated with drugs that pose serious danger to consumers. One infamous example of this is the 1997 recall of fenfluramine/phentermine weight loss drug. The Fen-Phen drugs were enormously popular in the 1990s. According to several reports, the drugs were recalled after they had been on the market for 24 years. Over 50,000 Fen-Phen victims filed lawsuits against the company behind the drugs over heart disease and other pulmonary issues they experienced after taking the drugs. Over 6.5 million people took the drugs to fight obesity.

Instead of overlooking the risks and postponing to respond to any drug recall promptly, act fast and avoid any adverse reactions.
