Honda Launches Ad to Alert People About Recalls

The latest auto recalls involving serious issues like the air bags that could expose occupants to flying fragments remain largely ignored by consumers nationwide.

As the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been pressuring auto makers to issue a nationwide auto recall that would include all vehicles fitted with the potentially deadly Takata airbags. But as some major brands avoid launching nationwide campaigns, Honda Motor Co Ltd does the opposite.

According to a series of news reports, Honda has recently launched an ad campaign that urges owners of Honda and Acura vehicles to verify whether their cars have open recalls. While this ad is not exactly specifically targeted at the air bag recall, the automaker is making an extra effort to reach out to those who are not receiving recall notifications via mail.

This effort shows the public and regulators that the company is serious about safety and is not trying to put profits ahead of their consumers’ well being.

Recall Ad Campaign Could Boost Safety

The company has allegedly set aside hundreds of millions of dollars to ensure the mass recalls associated with the air bag inflators produced by Takata are replaced promptly. The Takata air bag issue has been directly linked to at least six deaths.

The major problem with the air bag recall is associated with the fact that the inflators within the air bags may suddenly explode when they are deployed in a crash. The issue could cause shards of metal and plastic to be expelled in several directions. This problem could then lead to serious personal injury and even death as a result.

The controversy revolving around the air bag problem already caused Honda’s CEO to resign. As reports of deaths linked to the issue made the news, federal regulators intensified their efforts to push automakers to act.In spite of the NHTSA’s efforts, the air bag manufacturer Takata decided to refuse to comply.
